Buddha statues are ubiquitous in Sri Lanka, a predominantly Buddhist country. These statues depict the Buddha in various postures, such as seated, standing, or reclining. The most famous Buddha statue in Sri Lanka is the Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, located in the city of Anuradhapura and constructed in 140 BCE. Other popular Buddha statues in Sri Lanka include the Avukana Buddha statue, which stands at over 40 feet tall, and the Gal Vihara Buddha statues, which are carved into stone and date back to the 12th century. Many of these statues are revered as religious icons by Sri Lankan Buddhists and are often visited by tourists as well.
